As valued members of the Hotel Dieu team, volunteers play a vital role in creating a friendly and warm environment for patient, visitors and staff. To welcome and inform volunteers, an orientation session is held and training is provided. Each volunteer is issued an identification badge and a smock. There is a volunteer lounge, with a place to leave personal belongings and meet with other volunteers. A volunteer newsletter is published quarterly. Volunteers are invited to social events and educational opportunities throughout the year. In addition, Volunteers receive bus tickets and parking reimbursement to help defray personal expenses; refreshment vouchers are also available to each volunteer. Given notification, reference letters are provided.

Service awards and special recognition is given, each year, at the Annual General Meeting planned by the Volunteer Services to Hotel Dieu Hospital Inc. All volunteers are invited.

Volunteers are encouraged to provide comments, report ideas or concerns informally or through more formal evaluation processes.
