Detoxification Centre

The KHSC Detoxification Centre is a regional program funded by the Southeast Local Health Integration Network, and is an important resource for the community. It is the only Withdrawal Management Service between Oshawa and Ottawa.

The Detox Centre offers a confidential, short-term, non-medical, 22-bed, co-ed residential service for people 16 years old or older, who are intoxicated, in withdrawal related to their substance use, waiting for intake into a treatment program, or are in danger of a relapse.

Pre-admission screening with staff ensures a safe withdrawal in a non-medical setting with regular monitoring of symptoms. We also offer supportive counselling, access to help groups, and support by telephone. The Detox Centre is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and admission to the centre is contingent on bed availability.

There are no fees for services, and stays at the centre are voluntary. Planned admissions are asked of everybody, but we do take walk-ins/unplanned admissions, as well. The Detox Centre is partially accessible, and may require a planned admission and/or discharge.
