Generosity of Hotel Dieu Hospital volunteers brings quality health care closer to home

Volunteer Services to Hotel Dieu Hospital, Inc. demonstrated its commitment to patients and families at its annual general meeting today, announcing generous contributions geared to bringing high-quality care closer to home.

Over the last year, Volunteer Services has contributed just over $100,000 in support of medical equipment, programs and services at Hotel Dieu, including $20,000 for equipment vital to the new bariatric surgery program, which is giving patients, for the first time, access to weight-loss surgery in Kingston.  Another $44,250 helped to purchase a gastrointestinal enteroscope, used in a diagnostic procedure that patients previously could access only in Toronto but can now undergo at Hotel Dieu.  And a further $45,000 targeted additional medical equipment and support of children’s programs.

In addition, Volunteers Services today announced a $100,000 pledge over the next two years to help facilitate the expansion of the low-vision rehabilitation clinic at Hotel Dieu.

“The best patient care demands the best equipment,” says Carol Hazell, President of Volunteer Services, “and we’re especially pleased when our donations mean that patients can receive care close to home where they have family and community support.  We’re very grateful to everyone who supports our café and gift shop retail operations, along with various special events, because every dollar translates into top-quality equipment and services at Hotel Dieu.”

At the AGM, hospital leaders thanked the volunteers—who currently number 233 strong—for their continuing generous financial gifts, which support Hotel Dieu Hospital in leading the way in ambulatory care in our province.

“Even more,” says Dr. David Pichora, Hotel Dieu CEO, “we deeply appreciate the visible care and compassion our volunteers bring to Hotel Dieu in so many ways every single day.”
