Child Development Centre client earns prestigious provincial scholarship

A long-time client of the Child Development Centre at Hotel Dieu Hospital has been honoured with a prestigious provincial scholarship for outstanding commitment to his studies and to our community.

Chad Lees is the recipient of the 2015 OACRS (Ontario Association of Children’s Rehabilitation Services) Scholarship Award, presented annually on behalf of the OACRS Board of Directors.  To qualify, one must be a young adult who has been served by an Ontario Children’s Treatment Centre and who is pursuing a post-secondary education or career goal.   Awards are based on the candidate's notable commitment to his or her community and studies.

A client at CDC all his life and a smiling, familiar face at Hotel Dieu, 19-year-old Chad is also well known in the Kingston community in general and specifically for his keen participation in Easter Seals campaigns, including stints as Easter Seal Ambassador. At Hotel Dieu, he has enthusiastically taken on the same role for the popular CDC Run/Walk fundraiser. This fall, he takes on another exciting challenge when he heads off to Saint Lawrence College to study advertising and marketing.

“This confident, hardworking young man is an inspiration to us all and we wish him much success in the future,” says Jennifer Churchill, CEO of OACRS. “This is a proud moment for Chad and his family, and a proud moment for the Child Development Centre at Hotel Dieu.”

“At CDC we’re honoured to have played a part in supporting Chad as he has grown into the wonderful young man he is today," says CDC Director Margaret van Beers.  “We’re delighted that Chad’s hard work and wonderful spirit is being recognized with this scholarship award.”
