Weeneebayko Patient Services
Weeneebayko Patients Services is provided in partnership with the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA). WAHA administers an integrated health care system in the Mushkegowuk Territory, Ontario. The Territory consists of seven communities located along the western coast of James Bay and Hudson Bay, Moose Factory (Weeneebayko General Hospital), Moosonee, New Post, Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat and Peawanuck.
WPS provides services to all eligible Cree and other First Nations Peoples referred from WAHA. Services include: case management which involves basic counseling, Mushkegowuk Cree medical and cultural interpretation, patient advocacy and education; admission and discharge planning; liaison and referral services; accommodation; meals and transportation. Eligibility is determined by Non-Insured Health Benefits – WAHA (705-336-2947).
Geaganano Residence is located at 176 Johnston Street directly across the street from Hotel Dieu Hospital. The building contains 10 bedrooms and seventeen beds. It is wheelchair accessible with a wheelchair accessible washroom available on the first floor. It is two blocks from downtown Kingston and a pharmacy, restaurants and shops. A fenced and treed backyard provides a peaceful and private outdoor space for guests.
Meals are provided at the WPS Dining Room located at Hotel Dieu Hospital weekdays and local restaurants on the weekends. WPS operates its own transportation service for outpatients, escorts and staff within the city of Kingston.
The Kingston-Weeneebayko Charter is an 18 seat airplane which makes flights from Kingston to James Bay on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. WPS coordinates the transportation of patients and escorts from Kingston to Moosonee.
