Hotel Dieu ("House of God") was founded by the Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph, a congregation of religious women from France who came to Montreal in 1659. In 1845, four Religious Hospitallers arrived in Kingston and set up a hospital. In 1893, the Sisters purchased the present property, formerly Regiopolis College. To the patients and visitors of Hotel Dieu Hospital, we offer care and compassion, combined with current medical knowledge and technique. It is a fine blend, where we place the highest value on the individual. Our Volunteers are an integral part of our community. Everyone works diligently every day to make Hotel Dieu Hospital a friendly and warm institution. Volunteers make a significant contribution to the hospital, both in terms of time and talents given and monetary donations. The funds raised by volunteers are used to purchase much-needed equipment and comforts for patients and visitors. |
The Volunteer Services to Hotel Dieu Hospital Inc. has provided valuable support to patients, visitors and staff members since 1905, when it was founded by Mother Superior La Dauversiere. When Volunteer Services joined the Hospital Auxiliary Association of Ontario (HAAO), it opened doors to educational programs, and networking with fellow volunteers to improve the delivery of patient care in hospitals. The hospital auxiliary, Volunteer Services to Hotel Dieu Hospital Inc., invtes all volunteers to join the organization. The auxiliary operates the Brockview Cafe, Gift Shop and Lottery Booth and gives tremendous support to all volunteer activites through leadership, recognition and recruitement. The Auxiliary futhers the interest of the hospital to the community. All hospital volunteers register through Volunteer Resources and receive thorough orientation, training and ongoing support. |
