  • Pain that lasts longer than three months is best managed by a team approach.
  • Group-based treatment that emphasizes physical activity, goal setting and education has been shown to improve function and quality of life among people with chronic pain.
  • The Chronic Pain Management Group takes an interdisciplinary, time-limited, goal-oriented and team approach.

During this group, your team will include a

  • Occupational Therapist
  • Registered Nurse
  • Physical Therapist
  • Physician
  • Social Worker
  • Psychologist

Who would benefit from this group?

  • adults (19 years of age and older) who are living with chronic pain that is affecting their quality of life and function
  • people who are looking to set goals, become more physically active and actively learn non-pharmacological strategies to manage their pain. 

What to expect

  • You will be in a group of up to 10 people living with chronic pain.
  • You will receive education and learn strategies to manage your chronic pain from a passionate and experienced interdisciplinary team.
  • This 12-session group takes place one morning or afternoon per week.
  • You will be exposed to resources in the community.
  • You will be expected to set goals and actively participate in the group.

What not to expect

  • more medical testing on the cause of your pain
  • a support group to talk about non-pain related stressors
  • pain going away by the end of the group.

Goals of this group are to

  • improve your understanding of chronic pain management
  • set personal goals 
  • learn to move safely
  • practice coping and relaxation
  • apply learned skills
