Patient safety is top priority at Hotel Dieu Hospital

Patient safety and infection prevention and control are key priorities at Hotel Dieu Hospital.

Patient safety is about constantly working to avoid, manage and treat unsafe acts within the healthcare system. On a day-to-day basis, it translates into actions such as monitoring for the spread of infection, educating staff, patients and families about hand hygiene, using the best sterilization processes for equipment, providing a safe, clean physical environment, and much more.

Hotel Dieu is committed to continuously monitoring and improving patient safety, and to reducing the potential for adverse events occurring within our organizations.

Hotel Dieu Hospital is an ambulatory (outpatient) care facility, which means almost all of our patients visit and leave the hospital on the same day. As such, we do not fit the reporting criteria set out by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care for several Patient Safety Indicators. Consequently, we are not required to report data on these indicators, which include:

• MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA)
• Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci (VRE)
• Clostridium Difficile Associated Disease (C. difficile)
• Central Line Infection (CLI)
• Hospital Standardized Mortality Ratio (HSMR)
• Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP)
