Providing current and comprehensive training of ophthalmic medical personnel.

The KOTC at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston, Ontario offers 2 arms of training which is unique to this centre among Canadian ophthalmic training programs.

The first arm of training is at the ophthalmic technician level. The ophthalmic technician program is a 12 month full time program which will provide students with the required knowledge and skills to fully integrate into an ophthalmology practice as an ophthalmic technician. Graduates are immediately eligible to secure employment as an ophthalmic technician for an ophthalmologist in private practice, for a group of ophthalmologists, or for a hospital with an ophthalmology department or clinic.

The second arm of training is at the ophthalmic medical technologist level. The ophthalmic medical technologist program is an additional 12 months of training focusing on advanced ophthalmic diagnostic procedures. Graduates are immediately eligible to secure employment as an ophthalmic medical technologist for an ophthalmologist in private practice, for a group of ophthalmologists, or for a hospital with an ophthalmology department or clinic.
