Hotel Dieu Hospital deemed exemplary for exceeding national standards of safe, quality health care

Accreditation Seal Exemplary StandingHotel Dieu Hospital has achieved the highest award possible from Accreditation Canada for building and sustaining a culture of quality, safety and excellence in health care.

The hospital has been accredited with Exemplary Standing after a recent peer review in which Accreditation Canada evaluated its success in meeting stringent national standards of quality and quality improvement in terms of its governance, clinical leadership, people, processes, information and performance.

“We’re very proud of these results,” says Dr. David Pichora, Hotel Dieu Chief Executive Officer.  “Achieving Exemplary Standing means that we have gone above and beyond the national standards set by Accreditation Canada for safe, quality health care.  We strive for that level of excellence every day and it’s wonderful to be recognized for that commitment and hard work.”

During a three-day site visit in mid-September, Accreditation Canada surveyors assessed Hotel Dieu Hospital on 1295 applicable standards across eight quality dimensions for high quality health care.  The surveyors singled out numerous strengths across the organization, including a robust quality improvement plan, solid patient safety program, strong faith-based ethical framework and dynamic research program.

Additionally, the surveyors praised the cleanliness of the hospital and the strong sense that all those who work at Hotel Dieu care for each other and look after each other.

Health accreditation is a voluntary process.  Every three years, Hotel Dieu utilizes Accreditation Canada standards and programs to help improve quality, reduce risk and strengthen accountability so that it can offer the best possible care and service.
