Hotel Dieu Hospital applauds staff for living its mission

Mission Award Winners for 2016

Hotel Dieu Hospital today celebrated its employees and volunteers for living its mission of making visible the compassionate healing presence of God to all persons, and it presented several members of staff with annual Hotel Dieu Hospital Mission Awards for outstanding efforts in supporting the goals and values of the organization.

At a staff gathering Board Chair Michael Hickey applauded all staff for providing expert and compassionate health care before turning the spotlight on three individuals and one team whose contributions epitomize the culture and spirit of excellence at Hotel Dieu and in Catholic health care generally.

“These individuals really exemplify all Hotel Dieu staff, who provide excellent care and service year in and year out,” he said at today’s recognition event.  “Regardless of their role, everyone here does an outstanding job of living the hospital’s mission.”

Those honoured with 2016 Hotel Dieu Hospital Mission Awards were:

  • Corey Abrams, a Porter whose patient-centred care has been described as “phenomenal” by patients and who equates helping every patient, visitor or co-worker as helping a member of his own family

  • Beverly Blaney, a Psychometrist in Child & Adolescent Mental Health, who was applauded for her tireless, creative and compassionate efforts on behalf of her patients, including innovative initiatives such as mental health “boot camps” that reduce wait times while helping older adolescents mange the rocky transition to adulthood

  • Conrad Johnson, a Housekeeper skilled at showing incredible respect and compassion for patients in situations where their dignity may be challenged

  • Hotel Dieu Hospital-St. Mary’s Cathedral Coat Drive Committee, a small team that organizes an annual community coat collection to support those living in poverty and to help ensure they have warm winter clothing.
