Awards recognize excellence in providing patient & family-centred care

Patients, families and staff once again have an opportunity to honour the caregivers at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) through  two special awards.

Nominations are now being accepted for the Exceptional Healer: Patient and Family-Centred Physician Excellence Award and the  Exceptional Healer: Patient and Family-Centred Nurse Excellence Award .

The annual honours acknowledge a nurse and physician who demonstrates in his or her clinical practice the core concepts of Patient & Family Centred-Care:  dignity and respect, information sharing, participation and collaboration.

“We know how important patient and family-centred care is to KHSC and how it dovetails with the organization's mission and values,” says Patient Experience Advisor Sue Bedell.  “Now the Patient & Family Council has a way of formally applauding those hospital physicians  and nurses who create an excellent patient care experience over and above the norm.”

Patients, family members and hospital staff can all nominate a nurse and physician for the awards.  Important criteria for nominees include personal qualities such as approachability and empathy; the use of innovative methods to deliver compassionate care; a pattern of respecting patient and family perspectives; and the ability to honour the uniqueness of patients and families by incorporating their knowledge, values, beliefs and cultural backgrounds into the planning and delivery of care.

To nominate, please complete the appropriate nomination form below and submit as indicated on the form:
