Easy, Balanced Breakfast

Consuming a healthy meal in the busy morning may take less time than you think when you are prepared. Take a look at some of these simple, balanced breakfast suggestions.

On the go? Mix these ingredients in a blender for a simple yet delicious smoothie

  • 125 mL (½ cup) water or 100% fruit juice
  • 125 mL (½ cup) fresh or frozen fruit
  • 175 g (¾ cup) yogurt
  • 15 mL (1 Tbsp) skim milk powder

Want to warm up? Use quick-cooking oats to make a heart-warming bowl of oatmeal. Enjoy with a glass of milk or water.

  • Combine 1 cup water or non-fat or low-fat milk with ½ cup oats in a microwavable bowl
  • Microwave for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes Sprinkle with dried raisins or fresh fruit
  • Stir before serving

Why not have instant rolled oats cold? Enjoy a high fibre cereal served with your choice of fruit and milk:

  • ½ cup of oats
  • fruit of your choice
  • Reduced fat milk

Bored of plain old eggs and toast? Try scrambling your eggs and putting them in a whole wheat tortilla wrap

  • Whole wheat tortilla wrap
  • Green peppers
  • Shredded cheese
  • 1 or 2 scrambled eggs
