Apples to Zen
And I said to my body. Softly. ‘I want to be your friend.’ It took a long breath. And replied, ‘I have been waiting my whole life for this.’ ~Nayyirah Waheed~

Welcome to Apples to Zen, a newsfeed brought to you by the Kingston Bariatric Regional Assessment and Treatment Centre (RATC).

Every day in our clinic, we hear about the information and advice that patients gather from various social media sites. From eating well and supplements to weight and coping with post-bariatric surgery problems, everyone seems to be an ‘expert.’

Enter our bariatric team. We’re a group of nurse practitioners, social workers, dietitians and nurses who spend our lives devoted to understanding health, weight and bariatric surgery. And we know it is a lot more complicated than food and physical activity.

We’re ready to go ‘live’ in sharing the real story behind all things related to weight, eating well and accepting our unique selves. We are here to break down myths around living a healthy life. We are here to share our ideas and inspirations. We are here to inform health care professionals about how to approach weight in their practice and personal lives. Ultimately, we are here to support our patients and community in living a best life.

Come back for weekly posts. We’ll explore opinions and guidance around eating well, accepting your body and bariatric surgery. We’ll uncover how thoughts, habits and social networks influence our health. We’ll offer recipes and links to great reads. We’ll inspire you to nourish your body.
