In the Pediatric Diabetes Education Program, we
help children with diabetes and their families learn
how to cope with and manage their diabetes. Our
healthcare team is composed of a Pediatric
Endocrinologist, Pediatricians, Nurse Educators, a
Registered Dietitian, a Social Worker, and a Child
Life Specialist.
This multi-disciplinary team provides timely
education and support to children and their families,
with re-education as the child develops. Clinic visits
are scheduled every three to four months.
Screening and education to prevent complications
are based on the Clinical Practice Guidelines of the
Canadian Diabetes Association. We keep in close
contact with the child's family physician.
The Pediatric Diabetes Education Program at the
Hotel Dieu Hospital accepts referrals of children
newly and previously diagnosed with diabetes.
