Our Mission

The mission of the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston, rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, is to make visible the compassionate healing presence of God to all persons.

We share in this mission by being a caring and just community. This is expressed through the pursuit of excellence in health service, education, and research.

Philosophy

Hotel Dieu - God's House, God's House of Healing. The very name sums up the philosophy and mission of the founding Sisters and of our Hospital today. It is God's House, where God's Love is drawn upon and expressed in the care of the sick and of those who surround them.
We of Kingston's Hotel Dieu Hospital, building upon this established foundation, and guided by the medical-moral teachings of the Catholic Church, are committed to the following:

We believe in God Who creates each person in His likeness and Who gives eternal life. Each person, therefore, has dignity, worth, and rights from the time of conception.

We fulfil our commitment to serve God as participants in Christ's healing ministry by providing compassionate care and medical excellence to the sick, the poor, and the disadvantaged.

We will treat all people affiliated with our Hospital with justice and fairness, and afford them opportunities for teaching, learning and development.

We strive to promote a spirit of truth, harmony, and well being by working together as a community of caring persons amongst our patients our sister institutions and ourselves.

We practice Christian stewardship as demonstrated through sound management principles.

Values

As members of the Hotel Dieu Hospital community we value the sacredness of Human Life from Conception to Death. We do not engage in activity that subtracts from the sacredness of the individual. We try to express to the patients, their families and friends and to our co-workers that we value them.
As members of the Hotel Dieu Hospital community we value and foster A Community of Caring Persons. We believe that the basic principle of health ethics is the Dignity of the Human Person lived out in a human community.
