The Frontenac Diabetes Education Program (FDEP) offers diabetes education programs throughout the Sydenham, Verona and Sharbot Lake communities in Frontenac County north of Kingston. This program was established in 2002 to better serve the needs of individuals with diabetes in these communities.

Group programs are offered during the year by a nurse practitioner and registered dietitian. A 2-day program for individuals with Type 2 diabetes covers topics such as:

  • What is diabetes?
  • Healthy eating to manage diabetes
  • Blood Glucose monitoring
  • Medications in the management of diabetes
  • Label reading
  • Foot Care
  • Complications of diabetes
Past participants have found the information very useful and enjoy the relaxed friendly atmosphere in which it is presented. Family members are encouraged to join these groups. There is always time for questions.

Individual counselling, grocery store tours and community presentations about diabetes management are other services provided within the Frontenac Diabetes Education Program.

If you would like to register for a program or just find out more please call the FDEP coordinator at (613) 544-3400 ext 3589.
